Fashion

I have come to the conclusion that I like current fashions.

Not all. But a lot of it.

To start with, longish fullish skirts are in style. I am now back in agreement with 90% of ladies in all of world history. This makes me happy. It's quite possible to manipulate a long skirt into any sort of costume at all; it's very difficult to do that with jeans. Also, most girls look good in longish fullish skirts, and hardly anyone looks good in tight little pants.

To continue with, there are COLORS this season, both in clothes and in shoes. I am wearing hot pink ballet-style shoes as I type. Black and brown are good and worthy, but for goodness' sake, there's a whole rainbow out there.

There's a ton of variety now, too. One can wear what one likes, and not be ostracized. One can thus also find modest garb.

Oh, come now. What's wrong with black and brown? ;)

I can't IMAGINE you ever being fat. You'll always petite and pretty :).

I love colors, too, and funky shoes...

But I must admit, I am so out of it, I didn't know that long, full skirts were back in style. I knew that long tight skirts at least were and short full skirts at least were... it seems I need to do some shopping, at least poke my head into Kohls or the mall...

NOTHING is wrong with black and brown, O lady of the north; I just like pink. ;-)

Yes, but if I stocked up for thirty years, I'll be out of date for most of my adult life...

Thank you for the word of encouragement, Thacia. :-)

Alas, skirts aren't REALLY long, just longish. But do go shopping, and when I arrive, I will admire your new acquisitions. :-)

:-D ::chuckles:: Should I really weigh in on this one? Eh, why not.

"Classic" is better than in fashion...When you wear things that look good on you and are tasteful and simple, you don't have to worry about the next thirty years. :-P Most clothes don't last that long, anyhow...though it'd be nice if they did...

(Pardon my ellipses. I spent most of the day in bed with a sinus headache. :-P )

Well, the best reason I can think of to be in fashion is for the sake of other people. Two ways.

1. To remove stumbling blocks when dealing with them. For instance. If a Christian lady is called to be something high-powered in DC, she is going to be able to fulfull her calling better if she dresses in ways culturally appropriate to DC. This will require a sense of fashion on her part. It's a form of all-things-to-all-men-so-that-by-some-ways-I-may-save-some. If the lady in DC happens to enjoy the process, so much the better, say I.

2. Christianity is timeless, but the world is stuck in time. Homeschoolers are fairly good at the timeless part, but it's a witness thing to make it quite clear one is aware what decade one lives in. This is why it bothers me that I get so little enjoyment out of the modern world--even just our language doesn't please me--I much prefer archaisims and Britishisms. God put me HERE and NOW for a reason, and fashion is one way I get enjoyment out of here and now. After all, the rest of the world is HERE and NOW to an unhealthy extreme. I've got to be able to talk to them somehow, and I'm sure not going to do it by subjecting myself to an hour of televised "news" every night. (Unless a really good reason crops up.)

Finally...as all you who know me can probably attest...I do wear what is modest, I like, and I find comfortable, such as my hobbit costume. But I try not to be overly weird about it. It's not that I especially care what strangers think of me, especially if I am convinced of the righteousness of my cause; I just prefer not to make my clothes something that other people have to consciously get over when they deal with me. ("She's nice, even if she does look like a Norwegian hobo.") That's not really good service to the King or them.

It would be nice if fashions held still for a century or so, so that one and one's mother could use much the same pattern without having to go through a dozen styles in between. But that's not the way our HERE and NOW operate.

So much fun to hear the comments of men on fashions :)!

Perhaps there is a balance to be found between being trendy and attempting to create a timeless wardrobe?

My thoughts: clothes don't last 30 years, and it's nice to experiment with variety, both of which are reasons to stick with the fashions a little, as long as they are beautiful, comfortable, modest, appropriate, and feminine. And lots of bright colors are cool :).

For what it's worth, I'm with Jonathan... although I suppose I can appreciate your points 1 and Finally.
